Keyano College was founded in Fort McMurray in 1965 as the Alberta Vocational Centre (AVC). The college officially opened on January 26, 1966. In 1975, it was renamed “Keyano”, a Cree word that means “sharing”. The college’s slogan was later changed to “Yours, Mine and Ours”.
In 1978, Keyano College became a public community college when the province appointed a Board of Governors to serve as its decision-making body. The college has since grown to become a modern institution with multiple campuses.
